Berkeley DB supports ACID transactions and recovery, multiple processes and multi-threading for high concurrency, and replication for fault tolerance and high availability. It is lightweight and designed for high performance and scalability. Data can be stored in native format, eliminating the need for translation or mapping.
Berkeley DB is very flexible and configurable, giving the application developer control over how resources are allocated, and amount of memory dedicated to caching records, the degree of concurrency, support for recovery and more. It includes full source code for easier porting, integration, debugging and optimization.
